The art of being a Mom!

I call
it an art because it is hardly learnt. It is a display of affection that comes
from the heart, mind and soul. It requires a multiple execution of roles (or
multi-tasking as we say), with little or no training yet no room for errors. It
requires creativity, aesthetic appreciation and lots of activity otherwise your
children fall short.
Now
before you look away thinking… I am not a mom…yet…
I want
to lean into a scripture in the Bible that says:
“Sing o
barren, you who have never given birth!
Break
forth into joyful songs,
You who
have never been in labor.
For more
are the children of the desolate than the children of the married woman”.
Do you
care so much for another that you will be willing to sacrifice your time,
money, energy and comfort for their own wellness?
Do you
go an extra mile to ensure that others are served?
Do you
constantly make adjustments to your lifestyle, schedule, goals and pursuits to
provide a happier home for your loved ones?
Do you
‘sleep’ off in prayers and meditation for the hope that the future will be
better for your loved ones?
Then you
are a mom!
So as we
celebrate Mother’s day all over the world, I want to use this opportunity to
say…keep your MOM juices flowing because that’s just what our world needs to
be a better place!
I
particularly like the old time poem ‘My Mother’ written by Ann Taylor because
it expressly characterizes the gigantic and dynamic role of a mom without
portraying her as superhuman or a saint.
Verse 1:
“Who sat and watched my infant head
When
sleeping on my cradle bed
And
tears of sweet affection shed…My Mother’
Verse 3:
Who taught my infant lips to pray?
And love
God’s holy book and day
And walk
in wisdom’s pleasant way…My Mother’.
She
sacrifices her best, expecting nothing in return (well a thank you will do).
She
cries at night in prayers so you can smile all day long.
She
constantly screams, bickers and cautions because she wants the best for you and
hopes your life is void of detrimental errors.
She is
on duty round the clock without pay.
She is
energetic and enthusiastic most of the time yet not on steroids.
So…Happy
Mother’s Day to all ‘moms’ out there. Keep being and doing you because those
selfless acts inadvertently make world leaders and game changers!
